The construction on the section of the Provo River Trail that passes under I15 is finished.
To celebrate, the city is hosting an opening bike ride with Mayor Curtis [PDF]. The ride starts at 11 am Saturday. Here’s what Mayor Curtis had to say on his blog about the wrapping up of the construction:
Now it’s open again, six months early, and with several upgrades that will enhance safety and convenience for pedestrians and cyclists, including a wider, newly-paved trail; an eight-foot height clearance on bridge crossings; and more lighting to improve safety and visibility.
You can read more about the event on BikeProvo.org, or check out the Facebook event here. Mayor Curtis also mentioned that the Provo Bike Committee will be serving cookies. (Unfortunately I may be in California for a wedding, so I will not be able to attend.)
And finally, the river trail is a remarkable resource that sets the city apart from other ostensibly similar places. Now that the construction is finished, it should be better than ever.
