This weekend will be a busy one for Provo, but one of the most interesting events will actually happen Saturday morning and afternoon.
The Utah Lake Festival will take place at Utah Lake State Park from 10 am to 2 pm. According to the website,
The festival is free and will offer those attending a chance to enjoy the lake, learn about its many recreational opportunities and educate attendees about the lake’s ecosystem. The festival will offer fishing clinics, children’s activities, educational booths, food, and sailing demonstrations.
UV Magazine also reports that the festival will include free food.
I went to this festival once in the past and it was a great family event with a lot of activities for kids. I have no kids and I also enjoyed it, so it’s also good for everyone.
Utah Lake is an incredible resource for Provo. Though it doesn’t give downtown a nice waterfront, it’s an amazing recreational asset that is still underutilized. Events like the Utah Lake Festival help bring the lake in the public consciousness and emphasize the fact that the lake is a perfectly good place to spend a lazy summer afternoon. So if you haven’t been down to the lake recently, I highly recommend taking advantage of this (free) opportunity.
